Mission of the Longevity Association
Improving healthy life expectancy through the development, implementation and validation of scientifically based, evidence-based and ethical longevity medicine.
Longevity medicine is not just about extending human life, but about extending life in health, functionality and mental well-being. Modern medicine has more and more scientific evidence that aging is a complex but modifiable biological process that can and should be influenced through early prevention, precise diagnostics and personalized interventions.
Over the past decade, significant data have accumulated on the role of hormonal balance, cardiometabolic health, liver function, brain and mental health, the microbiome, chronic inflammation, and environmental factors (the exposome) in the processes of aging and the development of chronic diseases. This knowledge changes the classical model of medicine focused on the late stages of the disease and requires a new interdisciplinary approach, uniting different medical specialties.
Longevity Association aims to create training modules and educational programs for doctors and scientists through which:
to build on knowledge about physiology and pathophysiology of aging
to learn the principles of assessment of biological age and risk profiles
to consider the benefits, limitations and risks of hormonal, metabolic, nutritional and behavioral interventions
to build confidence and clinical responsibility in the application of longevity strategies in practice
The association brings together physicians from various specialties – endocrinologists, cardiologists, hepatologists, dermatologists, neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists and other specialists – who together build a holistic view of human aging. This multidisciplinary model is key to the correct interpretation of clinical data and to avoid fragmented, incomplete or incorrect therapeutic decisions.
The association pays particular attention to young doctors and scientists in Bulgaria who show interest in longevity medicine, prevention and personalized approaches. One of our main goals is to support their training, scientific development and participation in national and international initiatives. We will encourage the development of scientific projects, publications in Bulgarian and international journals, as well as participation in conferences and training programs related to aging and longevity.
Longevity Association will seek active collaboration with national and international scientific societies, academic institutions and professional organizations in the fields of preventive medicine, endocrinology, cardiology, neurosciences and public health. The goal is to integrate the Bulgarian medical community into the global scientific exchange and establish our country as an active participant in the development of longevity medicine.
The Association is also available for expert work with institutions engaged in health policy, prevention and sustainable management of health resources. In the context of an aging population and the increasing costs of treating chronic diseases, we believe that longevity medicine can contribute to more effective, rational and long-term healthcare, through early intervention and reduction of severe complications in later life.
Our mission is to affirm longevity medicine as a scientifically based, clinically responsible and socially significant discipline, in which longevity is not measured in years alone, but in quality of life, functional independence, and mental health.
