Longevity medicine is our mission

It is not just a quest for a longer life, but a purposeful effort to live longer in health, functionality and dignity. At its core is the understanding that extending life without preserving its quality is not a medical success, but a challenge.

With the conscious responsibility of doctors and scientists who have chosen to work and develop medical science in Bulgaria, we have united around the idea that modern medicine should focus not only on curing disease, but also on prevention, slowing biological aging and maintaining optimal body function throughout the life course.

Longevity medicine is inherently interdisciplinary. It unites the efforts of physicians from different specialties - endocrinologists, cardiologists, hepatologists, dermatologists, neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists and other specialists - who share the common goal of studying and managing the complex biological, metabolic, hormonal, neurocognitive and psychosocial processes of aging.

Over the past decade, the science of aging and longevity has made significant advances. Compelling scientific evidence has accumulated that aging is a modifiable process amenable to medical assessment and intervention. The development of biomarkers of aging, in-depth knowledge of hormone regulation, cardiometabolic risks, the role of chronic inflammation, mitochondrial function, the microbiome, and the impact of mental health and lifestyle have created a new paradigm in medical practice.

The rapid penetration of the concepts of longevity medicine in clinical practice has presented physicians with new educational and professional challenges. The need for a thorough understanding of the mechanisms of aging, the interactions between organ systems, the benefits and risks of hormonal, metabolic and behavioral interventions, and the ethical and responsible application of new therapeutic approaches has created a significant medical and scientific need.

It is this need that has motivated the creation of a community to unite the efforts of clinicians and researchers committed to the development of longevity medicine in Bulgaria. Our mission is to support the implementation of evidence-based, evidence-informed and ethical practices to extend healthy lives, to promote continuing medical education and to coordinate activities locally, nationally and internationally.

We believe that the future of medicine lies in a preventive, personalized and integrative approach where longevity is not measured in years alone, but in quality of life, functional independence and mental well-being.

Longevity medicine is not just a new specialty - it is a new philosophy of human care.
